FAQ
Have questions about ordering leather, grading, or shipping?
Below are answers to the most common questions from leatherworkers and makers.
Shipping Policy
Phoenix Leather Hides ships orders using multiple carriers to keep shipping costs as low as possible.
The carrier is selected based on the most cost-effective option available at the time of shipment.
If you prefer a specific carrier, please include that request in the “Add a Note” section during checkout.
We will do our best to accommodate your request. Any additional shipping cost associated with your preferred carrier will be invoiced via email and must be paid before the order ships.
Returns & Refunds
Returns and refunds are generally only accepted for leather that was damaged during shipment.
Each product listing clearly states the leather grading. If you are unsure about a leather, we strongly recommend ordering a sample before purchasing a full side.
You may also contact us for additional photos prior to purchase.
Returns for non-damaged leather may be considered at our discretion on a case-by-case basis.
If approved:
• Customers are responsible for return shipping
• Refunds will exclude the original shipping cost.
Due to the high cost of international shipping, shipping costs are not reimbursed for international orders.
International Shipping
Yes, we do ship internationally.
To provide the most accurate shipping quote and keep costs as low as possible, international orders are handled individually.
Please contact us and we will work directly with you to arrange the best shipping option.

Leather Grading System
We grade our leather to help customers understand the expected characteristics of each hide.
A–B Grade
• Minimal range marks
• Ideal for large panels and larger projects
B–C Grade
• More natural markings or brands
• Possible color variation
• May include small holes
• Good for medium-sized products
C–D Grade
• Higher volume of range marks, brands, or color variation
• Possible holes
• Best suited for smaller projects or vintage-style work where imperfections add character

Do You Offer Leather Splitting?
At this time we do not offer leather splitting services.
If you require splitting, many leather shops invest in their own splitting machines.
Why Don’t You List the Tanneries for Each Leather?
The leather industry is highly competitive.
Because we source leather from multiple suppliers and purchase large volumes, we do not publicly list the specific tanneries for each product. This helps protect our supply chain from reseller competition.
If you are interested in the tannery for a specific leather, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to provide that information.
Why Buy from a Leather Reseller Instead of a Tannery?
Many tanneries sell leather in very large minimum order quantities, often thousands of square feet.
This is not practical for many individual makers or small businesses.
Leather resellers help bridge that gap by:
• Purchasing large production volumes from tanneries
• Offering smaller quantities to individual makers
• Providing access to different finishes, colors, weights, and textures
This allows makers to experiment with new leathers without committing to massive production runs.
